Tuesday..

Yep, I'm thinking yesterday was just a case of the Monday's. I hate it when that happens. Today I was back in action though not without the leftovers of yesterday. I got up this morning anticipating hot coffee only to discover I'd forgot to close the lid on my coffee maker and push the auto button. At least I didn't turn it on and then leave it open, I bet that wouldn't have been pretty. I have my occasional air-head moments, like scooping bread yeast into my coffee instead of sugar one morning way back when. I keep my bread making whatnots in crocks on my counter so it's real easy to scoop em in as I go, dried milk, sugar, yeast and salt. That's what I get for not looking inside before I start scooping. That's not the worst air-brain thing I've done though. I'm not telling you about the other stuff.

Oh guess what! It snowed today!! I love snow! But it didn't stick but it tried so hard to all morning. I woke up to rain rolling my eyes at another soggy day I'd have to stay inside and do house chores while my oldest is at school but I got a lovely surprise! Sure it was still too soggy to take the baby out to do chores but gosh I'd rather look at falling snow than rain. It just about made my day. Maybe that's what got me out of yesterdays mood. Hmm... Nah.

With my oldest back in school again (I'm going to miss spring break, can't wait for summer break!) I'm back to doing chores before they get outta bed in the morning. I really do like this peace n quiet. I was enjoying doing chores with the kids in the mornings and letting my oldest take a little more responsibility with feeding and whatnot. Right now her only real chore is collecting eggs and that's only if the hens don't lay them somewhere so her sister can find them. I've never seen a 2yr old so excited about anything compared to finding a green egg laying on the porch or in the driveway (time to get those roosters in the freezer so my hens stop laying their edible gold all over the farm). The best part about my 2yr old finding eggs is she knows exactly what to do with them. It's fun though I have to keep up and open the doors for her. Luckily she's not big enough to open the screen door on her own. It will be a bad time when that finally happens. I'll have to keep the deadbolt locked just to keep her from disappearing every time I leave the room. (her sister did that once when she was about 3, went for a walk all on her own; scared the heck outta me. I'll tell you bout that some other time)

Oh yea, so no help with morning chores anymore. It's alright though, gives me time to get a good look at the animals every morning instead of being distracted by kids. Best way to keep animals healthy is to be able to just look at em every day. Easier to see signs of stress and illness. The evening chores I still get help with. Life is sure fun when you have a couple of kids to do farm chores with! Makes me want another one. :-\ Maybe.. probably.. one of these days.. ah if only Mr. Couldmakemehappy would come knocking on my door. *sigh*

Anywho. I joined the hobbyfarm website today. Turns out they have a forum and you can earn points by contributing to the website and then cash them in for real stuff. No kidding. So if you like all things farm take a look. I couldn't find an affiliate button so I guess I'll just live with knowing I passed on the word. :)

If you're on facebook look me up (Katie Phillips in Scio, Oregon), I'd love to have some more neighbors on farmville and country life. :D I made a fan page for my garden share project but haven't done much with it just yet. I need someone better at this social networking stuff. Maybe I need a wife instead of a handyman... nah...

Ok, 'nough rambling from me. Can you tell I'm in a great mood? (It has nothing to do with eHarmony, that site is disappointing)

Good night!

Monday...

Is Monday anyone's favorite day? You would think after a weekend off I'd be rip roaring and ready to go but every Monday seems to be about the same. Digging for a little of that self starter stuff. Even though I'm lacking all drive and ambition today I got up after only two hits of the snooze button. Surprise, surprise. But I'm lagging in a big way. Maybe not enough coffee, maybe it's all the rain and lack of sunshine. The baby and I have been napping all day it seems. Spent some time on the floor watching cartoons and napping then spent some time picking up the kids' room only to catch a couple minutes of shut eye in there too. It must be the rain, or I'm self consciously conserving my energy for the rest of the week. Yea that's it.

I have to learn to stop reading blogs that women write who have the other half of the puzzle and a ton of beautiful kids. You'd think being single with two kids would put a halt on that biological clock that's ticking every so increasingly louder as the baby gets older and I realize I'm getting older. I know I'm not old. But in child bearing years I'm past my prime and it's all a slippery sloop from here. So what's with the gosh darn ticking. It's obviously nothing to do with my little stint on eHarmony cause besides a few friendly emails exchanges and a couple of friendly phone conversations it sure isn't going anywhere.

And look, the baby is napping again. Maybe I should join her. I did manage to put the laundry in the washer. Though I haven't touched the kitchen yet or the bathrooms. If this rain keeps up then I'll have all week to get those chores done. I need a mental upper. Or maybe that's my stomach saying I need lunch. Nah... Nap time. Tomorrow I will do Monday's chores. :)

Friday of Spring Break... :(

This week has been productive! Got about 2,000 sq ft of garden tilled, only about 38,000 sq ft to go! I feel accomplished. I've got about 8 weeks of tilling and planting a head of me. The sun is teasing me, it stays out just long enough for me to get the kids geared up to go do chores then it disappears and it starts raining again. Not fair!

My oldest is going to a sleep over tonight which means just me a the baby. I think we'll watch movies and drink strawberry milk till we fall asleep on the floor in our sleeping bags. Maybe I'll put the tent up in the living room and we'll sleep in it. Fun, fun!

Sunrise is being nice to me, it's getting up earlier again (no thanks to daylight savings) and we're back on track. I'm still getting lots of quiet time in the morning to drink my coffee before it comes up though. I can't really complain about that though. How often does a mom get to be kidless when the kids are actually at home? First thing in the morning seems to be the most peaceful. Great way to start a day too.

Orders are coming in for my CSA (garden share) project. The goat's are getting closer to kidding. My hens are laying green and brown eggs in abundance, my new green/blue layers are growing (can't wait till June when they start laying). The alpacas are starting to look too warm in their wool coats (they'll be sheared in May if not sooner).

Spring has sprung. I can't believe how fast this year is going by. Seems like each week just zooms by without so much as a pause or slow down.

(Oh and yea I'm still on eHarmony. Not a single date yet though I've weeded out a lot of obvious pitfalls. Still at it though. This time around I'm not wasting any time on a pocket full of good intentions, ya got it or ya don't.)

Spring is here!

Or at least it sure felt like it today. It was frozen this morning but the sun was up all day without a cloud in the sky and the temps rose. I wouldn't be surprised if it broke 70 today. My oldest is out of school today and all next week. Spring break! Which means lots of work got done today. She's such a great helper with the baby. She's a great help with chores too. I raked briars and she clipped them off, I clipped low branches and she hauled them to the goats to devour. We make a good team. The baby slid down my soon to be stairs that i dug out of the cliff in my backyard which she loved and did again. Right now they're just partially carved into the cliff so a dirt slide if the imagination says so. For a split second I thought about plastic and a hose to make it real fun but decided it wasn't quite warm enough yet and I have a long to do list to get done before I can play too much. But the idea is now planted in my head.

Today I built another hotbox and stuck tomato and pepper sprouts in it. Watered the other hotbox that holds my cole crops and yesterday made a temp chick pen for the chicks who've been living in my bathtub for about 4wks now.

It's been a busy around here. Waiting patiently for our goats to have their kids so we can learn a new venture. I've been drooling over the idea of home made butter, cheese and cream. Talk about some yumcious (it's a new word) meals.

As crazy as it may sound I now have two coffee pots programed one is my morning coffee set to go off at 4:30 (up at 4:45) and the other one is for tea which will auto brew at 9am (so it has time to cool for ice tea the rest of the day). My nightly routine consists of making sure each is set and ready to go so the next day I don't have to worry about forgetting. Brilliant or what? Now if only I could program my bread maker to have rolls ready for me. Hmmm... if I were an inventor I'd run with that one.

Speaking of rolls. I better get at it. Dinner wont start itself.

Have a great weekend! Hope you all are getting this great weather too!

No I haven't forgotten...

Call it self discipline or lack there of. Maybe writer's block. Maybe busy, busy. Maybe. Or a combination of the above.

Update. I was getting up about 45 minutes before the sun got up so I could have a cup of coffee and wake up before going out to do my chores before the kids got up in the morning. I was in a comfortable groove even getting up at 5:30 so I could be out the door about 6:15 and done by 7. I got a coffee pot that has my coffee waiting for me when I get up which is soooo nice!

Now with day light savings. I hate it! It doesn't get light till 7:15 which is past the time I have to get the kids up. I'm not set up to work in the dark so I'm doing chores after I take my oldest to school. Yesterday the baby took a very early morning nap, she wasn't ready to get up an hour early either. So I took advantage and shoved all my chores into about 20 minutes. This morning the baby was a huge help. She knows exactly what to do with a water bucket; drag it to the end of the hose and hold the hose in it till it's filled up. She's such a great little helper.

Well I better get back at it. I can't wait till the sun starts getting up early again. I really don't like losing my morning light.
